I am doing a bench test on my generator. When I hook a battery to it, (positive ground & neg. to the generator post), the generator runs counter clockwise (backward). What could be the problem (other than messing with it to start with?)

Putting power to a generator makes it work like a motor. On a international cub cadet it has a starter Generator. Putting power to it makes it work like a starter and turning it with the pulley makes it a generator.

Ask on the correct forum (Model A or V8). This is not the place to ask technical questions. If it was T I could tell you how it needs to be set up, Model A and V8 can't remember if it should motor clock wise or counter clock wise when voltage is applied on the bench.
