I posted this on the model A site as well. I need help. I just broke the crankshaft pulley on my model B. the engine is still in the car. can anyone tell me what I need to do to remove the old pulley and ratchet nut without doing anymore damage. any help would be appreciated

Reaching tech for that nut: All starts at Sears.
The right size socket is hard to find in 1/2 drive, and the readily available 3/4 drive is too fat for this job.
36MM is avaialable in 1/2 and fits.
Get the little kit Sears sells containing 1/4, 1/2, and 3/8 hex drive stubs for sockets. I cannot remember what they call the things, but all they are is square drive stump to snap into socket with a hexnut at outside to allow sockets to be turned with end wrenches. The 1/2 one uses a 3/4" hex, and I purchased a ratchet box in that size... actually I bought two of those, one flat and the other bent to allow access in different ways.
With this rig I can readily turn the crank ratchet nut on my B pickup. For tuning purposes you just turn the engine with it, for removal you use the "Okie impact wrench" and give the end of the wrench a good smack with a big mallet so nut removes rather than cranking the car along.

If you have a one-piece pulley you'll likely have to jack up the front of the engine and also remove the crank guide and front spring u-bolts to gain enough clearance to remove the old pulley and install a new one. If you have a two-piece pulley you likely can avoid having to do that.

how do people feel about the two piece pulleys vs. single. some people have advised avoiding the two piece pulley
