broken crankshaft pulley on a model B

I need help. I managed to break the crankshaft pulley on my 32 model B. the engine is still in the car. can anyone tell me how to remove the crankshaft pulley and the ratchet nut without doing more damage. any words of wisdom would help
thanks

I made a special bent box wrench that fits the crank nut (bolt). I slip it on and lay it against the driver's side frame and click the starter with the key OFF. This will break the bolt loose. Then you can remove the bolt, loosen the 4 rear motor mounts, jack up the front of the engine and remove the pulley. This is for the Model A, so it will vary a bit for the Model B with different mounts.

Whooo, Tom. That's a head scratcher.
Do you mean that you wedge the handle UNDER the passenger side frame? Otherwise the engine will crank the wrench around about 200 degrees, removing the fan and the gen pulley before contacting the drivers side frame ... and loosening the nut.
Hope you wear your helmet and full face shield ... and body armor ...

Tom,
sounds dangerous. I do have a large closed wrench that fits on the nut. I'll give it a try but from inside the car. anyone else done it this way?

I had the same thing on my B engine, (Tiwan pulley) Remove the radiator, jack up the front of the engine enough to take a 3 or 4" grinder & cut the old pulley off. Just cut a big chunk off & pull it off. Replace with a 2 piece pulley. It was a pretty easy job. I used an electric impack wrench & correct socket. Be sure to get the nut tight upon replacing it.

how did you prevent the crankshaft from rotating when using the impact wrench on the ratchet nut.

I meant DRIVER'S side and I corrected the post. Thanks:)

Barry, The beauty of an impact wrench is it won't crank the engine around, at least not as fast as it "hits" the bolt so the bolt will still back out. The heavy flywheel helps keep the rotating assembly static.

once the ratchet nut is off how easy is it to remove the remaining pulley assembly? the whole circular component of the crankshaft pulley broke off leaving the remainder behind the nut

thanks to everyone. I ended up putting a wrench on the ratchet nut with the other side against the drivers side frame after removing the radiator hose. one or two clicks of the starter was enough to loosen the ratchet nut. the remainder of the pulley came off easily. now I just have to wait for delivery of the new crankshaft pulley

Tom,
Do you mean like the original wrench?
Here is the original Ford Crankshaft Pulley Wrench on Ford Garage.

Yes, pretty close to the same.
