broken bendix spring

I broke the bendix spring. When I removed the 2 bolts that hold the spring on the shaft, I didn't realize that that the bolts were not the same. There is a long one and a short one. Which goes where? also a little heads up on the procedure would be great.....thanks as always

Long one only fits in the rear hole. It locks the assembly to the shaft, along with the half moon woodruff key. In this illustration the rear of the car is to the right.

Best to replace both tabbed washers and make sure to bend the tab up to hold the head of the bolt.
