Bren Gun carrier world record

Hi Graeme, I had one there. It was the only one there that didn't go, because it had no motor or gearbox in it. I am currently (slowly) putting an engine together for a second carrier that is more important to me. I was a passenger in the lead carrier, one of only two proper Bren Carriers (British built) that survive today. Both are in N.Z. Most so called Bren Carriers are in fact what is termed a "Universal" carrier. Carriers are my poison.

midwest military here in minnesota has a "proper" bren, not a T 16, came out of canada. check his web page

Hi Cas3, John Bizal, of Midwest military, has a Canadian Universal carrier (yes people do call them Bren carriers )The name of the early British carrier stuck and to be fair, with only one of them ever getting to the north American continent. (1 sent to Canada before WWII) it is easy to understand why the 28,000 Canadian built Universal Carriers are referred to as "Bren" carriers.

Love it! Not only do I like flatheads , but after 23 years in the army I'm fond of military vehicles. Great job getting them all together.
One of the things in my bucket list is to come and visit New Zealand and Australia. Maybe I'll catch you breaking another world record. See you then mates!

They all run Ford V8s. The Australian Carriers ( New Zealand built them to the same plans, as well) all run a 239.
The riveted ones varied. The Canadian ones mostly ran a 221 and later the 239. The British in typical British style also had 60 hp power units.
They all ran the 4 speed Ford crash box and one of two diff ratios. The Australian ones had a 6.66:1 diff while the riveted ones (slightly less weight) ran a 5.83:1 diff.

Wow Bluebell.... a man of many talents. The universal carrier thing is explained in another you tube clip where the carrier concerned carried a Vickers gun.
