breaking into a 39 pickup

Why not just pick the lock? Those older locks are very simple and easy to pick .

If the inside handles were in the lock position before the doors were closed picking the outside lock does no good. In this case the door has to be opened from the inside.

I recently removed the hinge pins on my "52 F-7, a former fire truck that was inside most of its life, and I had to heat a couple of the pins to get them out and they still came out hard.

About 12 years ago my 6 year old pushed both door handles up in my 49 F1 locking them, then shut the doors. The AA (Automobile Association) guy I called told me he routinely solved this problem in modern vehicles in under 5 minutes. Thirty minutes later he was still scratching his head. Finally he used a standard bread and butter knife with a 90 degree bend in it to lever up one of the quarter window latches, in theis way accessing the door lock. Much relief!

Mart, why didn't I think of that ? Wasn't there a film starring Sean Connery where he BROKE IN to Alcatraz or is my imagination getting the better of me (as usual) ?

I locked both sets of keys in my 39 Deluxe Tudor. Called a locksmith he came over and opened the car up from the passenger side door(the only door with a lock) in a couple of minutes no damage done for fifty bucks.TEB

I am an amateur at lock picking, I was able to pick original ignition on my 51 and 53. The door lock on my 51 F1was so simple it scared me two strokes with the pick tool and it was open!

With project vehicles that have sat for years without the latches being operated the latching dogs are seized. On the truck with no windows you have to use a flat blade screw driver from inside the vehicle and find the dog and pry it forward toward the front of the vehicle, even a stuck door latch dog will move enough to open the door. On the truck with intact glass remove the rubber of the back glass and reach in to the dog location that you found on the other truck without windows. Picking locks won't help if your latches are frozen, so pry the dogs. I've had to do this many times on parts trucks and it works easily when you have access with no windows. NOSPARTSMAN
