Break lite

Has anybody had to shorten the distance from where the break rod attaches to the cross shaft and makes contact with the break lite switch. When I attach mine it pushes my switch on and break lite stays on. I read you are supposed to have 1/16 gap between rod and switch. My break pedal is all the way up.

can you loosen the transmission tower bolts and slide the switch ahead a bit. or elongate those holes? just a thought.

Sounds like he's working on 30-31 where the switch mounts to the frame not the trans. Space it back with a couple washers.

With the brake pedal all the way up, the brake rod should push on the brake light plunger, turning the brake light off. When you step on the brake pedal, the rod should release the plunger, closing the circuit in the switch, turning the light on.

Sounds to me you have the brake rod adjusted too far forward, not allowing it to push the plunger back far enough, opening the circuit in the switch. This is on the 30-31.

Spacing the switch back will make the situation worse.

The brake light switch is in the normally ON position. The plunger needs to be pushed in to open the contacts, turning the light off.

Yes I was confused on what way the switch worked. Thanks for the info. I got it adjusted and it works like a charm.
