Break-in gone wrong!

I don't run resistor plugs or wires in any of my flatheads - due to issues with "spark jump" related to the rotors and distributor caps. This is particularly true when using a Harman-Collins dual-coil - they tend to have a lot of issues with secondary spark leakage in the yellow "mid-plate" for the second coil.

Since you have new Mallory stuff, I can't comment on spark voltage jump/leakage issues as I've not ran these on my distributor machine.

Bottom Line: If you don't have a real reason to run resistor wires or plugs, then don't - they will always reduce spark intensity at the plug. If you do, then try to use spiral-core wires and pay attention to any suddenly developed "misses" after you put these new wires and/or plugs in. With newly manufactured ignitions - you may not have any issues.

Best of luck,
B&S

This is what I have. 12V system with a Petronix converted crab, new Stromberg spiral core wires and the NGK plugs listed.

Aren't the NGK H-10 replacement BR-4 & 6's that most folks recommend to run resistor plugs are well?

Do you have a non-extended tip, non-resistor 3/4" NGK plugs with their heat range of 4-6 plug that you recommend?

I do have some MSD non-resistor plugs I picked up on Holley's clearance that I'm going to experiment with as well.

Yay! Yay! Yay! Yay! Yay!

I left the intake off and spark plugs out but cranked it with new oil and pushrod plug installed.

Once primed, the gauge showed 45-50 psi just cranking, not even running. I'm getting exited! For the second time! Now I'm waiting for new plugs to show up and a little time and I'm gonna try running it again! Was the whole oil pressure thing a fluke? Was I too scared? Is this actually true? What will go wrong next?

I would like to truly thank each and every one that has been reading through this thread and helping me along. I wish I could buy you all a donut;).
