Brattons higher quality than Macs

Here is an update:
I ordered new nickel plated dust covers (and caps) from Brattons. They arrived today and the dust covers from Brattons come with the correct rim nuts. So if you want to save some money you could get your metal stem tubes from Macs and get your dust covers and caps from Brattons. You would then have the correct setup.

I have received good parts and bad parts from all vendors that I have dealt with. So why does this post have to keep going on and on? Must be to hot outside for people to get outside and get away from their computers!

Thanks Y..

I have learned that Snyder's Tom Jordan will answer any questions you have about any part, especially if it's an important one. Example:

I asked Tom about their Throw Out Bearings. Most bearings today are foreign made.

Tom said theirs are made in the USA by Aetna.

As far as the concerns about this thread rambling on, I think the "more the better." Don't we all want the best for less? How else can we get information that helps us decide..

Larry

Tom @ Snyder's has always answered my questions about their parts. They just don't publish their sources in their catalog. The gal on the order desk doesn't know, just ask for Tom or Don.

Is this possible? Why can't the vendors force the suppliers to rate parts the way MikeK stated in post #4 under the thread Ball Bearings? This rating could be posted with the item description in eletronic or printed catalogs. The monkey would be off the vendors back and the purchaser would have the quality of parts he wants to pay for. Everyone would be happy.

I would like to at least see the vendors include who the manufacturer is of the part. like for example Summit Racing (http://www.summitracing.com) does, then I can decide if I want that part or not.

I know Tam's does this to a certain extent. States right there in ther catalog. "Vintique Brand" So I order the cowl light arms from Snyder's instead and I get cowl light arms made by "Vintique". If Snyder's had been up front I would not have bought them (Or maybe that's why they are not up front with the brands...).

It would be cool if a purchaser can post a review under the product such as Amazon does
This way you can get real world advice

you bring up an excellent point, the Barn is replete with complaints about Vintique. the unpleasant truth is, despite what some of its loudest proponents claim, our free enterprise system often does not always function fairly, honestly or efficiently. one might hope that commercial endeavors based upon a nostalgic hobby would generate some more nobler attitudes but such attitudes are hit or miss. My perception is that of the various suppliers, Bert's is most sincerely dedicated to the intangibles of our hobby.

I guess I live on a different planet than most of the commenters.

I have used lots of Vintique, especially on early V8, and don't see a big problem with fit of chrome die cast. Of course they are not identical, but they look and fit fine for a driver.

Sorry but the fit is not "fine" for me. Two of the three mounting holes don't line up on either arm and check the angle of the mounting bolt going into the arm. No I would say that's not good enough for a driver. For $100+ and USA? made I expected better. Do you think I'm asking for too much??

Throw out Bearing not bad mouthing vender but the add said . Throwout Bearing- Made by BCA -The Best You can buy -NOT the cheap Aetna bearing that fail prematurely . the bearing I received was made in Mexico is that the best ?

I prefer Snyders over Bratton's mainly because of their website unless something has changed recently.

That said, both have been awesome. Neither have let me down.

I've never dealt with Macs though, but I seem to recall seeing comments like this previously.

being a business doing volume i receive a 6% discount across the board from Brattons. i called Snyders as i had a 8K order sitting on my desk and they did not offer that so guess who got the order and all subsequent orders.. good business huh ..

I have asked Snyders that too. They tell me they don't offer discounts because their quality and prices, compare to others, are better.

Somewhat true? I don't know, but the stuff I've gotten from them is very good.

And, to keep this objective, I have not ordered from anyone else except Mac's. And that purchase went back.
