I have been coming across alot of brass top coils lately however they all seem to screwed to later wood boxes, is this common?

All Brass top coils have a Brass/copper cover on top of a wooden coil. Some had four and some six screws holding them on.

Here's how mid-teens (1915) coils look.

What I have been noticing is brass tops mounted to the wood boxes with the sliding covers that are held in place with 2 nails?

according to the Model t article on the history of coils (google) the early ones had sides that were nailed along the perimeter, the newer ones slid in a groove and was held with two nails at the bottom.??

Yes, I believe 13 or 14 they switched over to the slider with the two nails, but they still retained the brass top, even though Ford never polished them, the were painted a flat black from new. Are you selling these or just buying to restore?
