Brass Carb Plugs

I'm putting together a new Zenith carb for a friend and have a question about the brass plugs. Should I put anything on them before I put them in? I've seen that some use Loctite. What do you guys recommend?

The brass plug should fit like a cork in a wine bottle. Just tap it in with moderate force. If the plug is much larger than the hole there may be some danger in cracking the casting. Use care.

I use a little bit of shellac put on with a small artists paint brush.

I've also used snug fitting lead balls, tapped down just below the surface with a pin punch & then roll over the top surface with a fat center punch. Never leaked! Bill W.

Loctite is good. Be extra careful with the uppermost plug (over the idle screw) as the thin casing is super easy to crack.
The plugs in some kits are incorrect sized but it's easy to make them with a bit of brass on a lathe or even a drill chuck held against the bench with a hand file.
Charles I think the car in your avatar looks stunning! Would you consider posting any fullsize pics for us to see? ....Looks like Brewster green....love the black wheels :):):)

Thanks for the info everyone. Craig, yes the car is Brewster Green and Black. It's in pieces for a re-restoration but I'll see if I can find some old pics that are decent quality to post. I'm glad you like it!
