Brakes locked while driving

I hit a bump while taking a short drive in my 1929 and since then the the rear driver side brake locks up momentarily every few time I try to slow down. It releases after I am at a full stop. What might be the cause/fix?

Thanks,
Seth

Check the brake rods, my guess is that one of the brake rods caught on something...maybe a shock.. when you hit the bump. Could be that the bent rod is slightly applying the brake while driving and that brake shoe is self energizing while in motion. Emergency brake bands are more likely to self energize than service brakes.

Would that cause a lock and skid?

My 29 Tudor did that after I painted the drum. There was just a very little overspray on the inside of the drum and that made the brakes so grabby that they would lock up in the driveway. I sanded the drums and that took care of it. I've also seen loose emergency brake linings and that will lock up the drums.

Seth , Check the emergency brake carrier to see if it has the early style . The early ones did not have the " ears " to keep the shoes in place ,also some were not reinforced on the part that the shoes push against . I would replace with later carriers or weld some ears on.
