Brake upgrade questions for 39 tudor

I've been quietly lurking and trying to learn all I can, but now I have questions and need guidance.
When taking the wheels (wide fives) and brake drums off my car, I discovered one of the wheels has a severe corrosion issue at the valve stem hole. It is rotted out to about 1 1/2" in diameter. I'm surprised it hasn't cut the valve stem. I'm thinking this might be the excuse that I need to change out to more conventional wheels.
I'm looking for advice on changing the brake system to get a smaller bolt pattern and possibly Bendix style brakes. I would like to do this without a second mortgage on the house. I really don't think I want to go to disc brakes ($).
So my first question is what do I need? Backing plates (loaded), hubs, drums, bearings, seals? What am I overlooking and where should I be shopping?
All helpful hints and guidance will be greatly appreciated.

I have supplied several customers here on the Barn with discounted Lincoln drum brake kits. No problems so far.

I, for one, think all late 30's Fords look better with "wide-5's". Wheels are quite easy to find (unless you have "60"). The drums work fine. I kept my '36 with "wide-5's" and everything bolted together.
