Brake shoe identification

A previous, unknown, owner converted my 1930 Tudor to hydraulic brakes. The linings are worn down and it is time to replace the shoes. The trouble is, I don't know whether they are 1939-41 or 1946-48.

Questions:

1. It is possible to tell from the attached photos which type they are?

2. Can anyone point me to instructions, preferably illustrated, for removing and replacing the shoes?

3. I have found brand new brake shoes with bonded lining from Sacramento Vintage Ford:

new

old

Are these the right items? Should I be looking at any other suppliers?

Thanks

Just a comment on the drums, these are the "typical" Detroit "composite" cast-iron drums used for decades: a cast-iron rim keyed & locked to a pressed -steel face.

When first heard about cast-iron drums for the Model A, I thought this was the form they would be, but I guess this type of manufacturing would be too complicated / costly for the relatively low demand for Model A brake drums...

What a mess

It appears that I might have BOTH types of V8 brakes!

All the above photos are of the right side.

I removed the hub on the left side just for comparison. See picture.

The left side has cotter pins on the front and no nuts on the back.
The right side has no cotter pins on the front and nuts on the back.

What gives?

It gets worse

I ordered some new rear axle nuts. They fit the left side, but on the right the axle is smaller with a coarser thread. It also has a homemade castle nut -- a regular nut with a slot cut into it for a cotter pin. I guess someone messed up the threads on the right side and just turned it down and re-threaded.

Any thoughts?
