Brake shoe finish?

I am in the process of rebuilding my brakes. I removed the shoes, used one of the suppliers rivet tools and removed all the rivets, then glass beaded the shoes. My question is what finish should go back on the shoe. I can’t seem to find anything in my books so I am wondering what the rest of the fordbarners have done on their cars. I purchased one set (4) of new shoes and there is a “shellac” looking finish on them but it is not clear how they are finished. Any help would be appreciated.

KM, Don't over think this, Black Rusteolum, should be fine.

As for the new shoes with a 'shellac' finish, I'm going to guess you could remove that with lacquer thinner and repaint with the same Rusteolum.

Cruising with your drums back on, no one will know to criticize your choice.

I don't think the original shoes were painted. If you do paint them, clean out the holes where the pins are inserted, or mask them. Apply a very light coating of wheel grease on the pins and rollers.

I just used a can of engine enamel that I had that was the wrong color. Never going to use it for anything else so perfect for the shoes hidden away. Just for rust protection

I like the baby blue. Maybe pink would be good for a car owned by a lady. Or am I being too traditional.

I am colorblind and I can see the blue! I have a set of the Rocky Mountains brake drums on my fronts so the blue would stand out if I were on the side of the road changing a flat tire…..

I've always used battleship grey paint on the shoes. No particular reason other than I like the color!
