Brake shoe choice

Hi, I'm planning on putting new brakes on my 52 Ford. What is the best choice for wear riveted or bonded? Thank you for your feedback.

I think it will be in the material not whether riveted or boned, however the rivets do come up into the material. I take it your car is not a daily driver so it shouldn't be of much concern your never going to wear them out.

Don't get me wrong here. I'm no expert. But I've been asking the same sort of questions on the barn about my ride ('47 Merc). From what I can make of it, the difference is in the softness of the lining material. Softer lining = stronger braking but more wear. Hard lining = not-so-strong braking but better wear. If you don't plan to do a lotta miles then I'd go for a softer lining material. There's a guy here in NZ has his own shop. He's called FlatheadTed. He seems to know a hell of a lot when it comes to old school brakes. He's on the barn too. Hope this has helped!

There's always something new to learn .Riveted or bonded has been used as a way of identifying lining types but now days any lining can be bonded and its hard to get a ID mark on them ..there are quite a few options' I like the bonded my self because of the thicker options available . There are basically two types of lining shown here woven and a grey compound that would suit a un boosted set up. the woven would be good for rod brakes .There was a discussion here on vacuum canister boosters the other day that can be retrofitted .Here is a shot in the first picture of that unit . This is a in line unit that can be fitted to any M/C ,
