Brake service rod question

Has anyone experienced or is it a well know fact that the brake service rods will stretch over time and countless applications of the brake system?
Thanks for any input to my question.

Service rods stretch? Haven't heard that and doubt that they would. They should be about 51 1/2" [ If I remember correctly without looking it up]. Even if they did/do, they are adjustable.

Yes they will but it is not that big of a deal if everything else is within specs.

Ok, lets have some fun thinking this through for you. Lets assume that they have "grown" by ¼" over 80 years of use (which it does happen), this doesn't need to concern you as they are still strong enough to do their job? If this has happened, you start by making sure the brake cross shaft is correctly adjusted, then on the fronts, make sure the arms are located correctly at 15° slanted forward, then turn the clevis on the end of the rod to make the proper adjustment.

I have not seen the stretch but the wear of the pin holes and reduced diameter of rod(cut) due to the tension strap. Both can be welded/repaired for another 80 years

When I was redoing my brakes some of the rods had some pretty good gouges In them like they had been rubbing on something. So I was going to replace them. I was telling this to a old Model A man who knew every thing about anything to do with Model A's. I was told not to buy the ones because they were made from soft rolled steal and stretch to easy ???. Richard.

I have recently been told by some individual Model Aers that there brake rods stretch. If steel construction is the concern wouldn't DOT have a say so in the grade of steel selected for use. When the companies who put the upset in the rods, which I am assuming is done by heating that section in an induction heating ring and then upsetting it in a die, don't they quench and check the rod for hardness test. Just as comparing a grade 2 bolt against a grade 5, or grade 8 bolt, the rods material should be selected for it's strength requirements, such as elongation, or stretch.

if this were true i would believe the non adjustable eye on one end would turn into a teardrop as it is the thinnest part of the rod...
