Will propane heat the rivets up hot enough to set them with a air hammer. I am sure there has been some discussion on here about the subject. If there was and I miss it I sorry.
If you use a pencil-point burner, it might... best have a helper to hold the torch / hand you the rivet set, etc. If you're working by yourself, the rivet will probably cool-off too much by the time you put the torch down, etc.
A MAPP-gas outfit would work better, if you do not have access to oxy-acetylene...
Thanks Frank and Fordgarage I'll try the air hammer Because I don't have access to oxy-acetylene. Earlier today I went to a welding shop the guy was standing around doing nothing and wanted to charge me $35.00 bucks just to heat them. I guess you could through the use of his compressor also. anyway thanks for advice.
John I was thinking about useing brickets thanks for the idea. Purdy I have a long ballel air hammer does about 90 lbs sound good or should it be higher. Thank you both for the great information.
I used a mapp gas torch recently and as others said, the rivet cools down pretty quick. Beat the heck out of it with my air hammer cold with no luck. Had to try about four times moving from the torch to the air hammer before it mushroomed nicely. Heat it till you think its ready then double the time it took. And as mentioned in the instructions, paint the backplate after peening. I burned through powedrcoat on the first one and had to bake it a second time.
