Brake roller rust

Doing a winter-based examination and cleaning of brakes. The rollers move freely and there is no evidence of wear (these components are not original to the car), but I don't like the rust that is evident. It will be easy to wire brush them clean, but what can I apply as a rust deterrent that does not also contaminate the shoes and drum?

The roller and roller pins are inexpensive. They come plated so that they do not rust. This is a critical part of the of the braking system. It looks like there is some slop between the roller pins and the rollers. My advice is to buy new parts.

The roller pins are different than the pins that connect the other end of the shoes to the adjustment arms. Do not mix them up. The heads of the roller pins ride on the tracks, which should be flat and at the right height.

All these parts should have a thin coating of a quality high-temperature grease when the brakes are assembled.

Examine the wedges in front for wear. There should be none. The wedges are another part that is inexpensive and critical to the brake function.
