Brake pedal return spring

I am restoring a 1930 Tudor with Burt’s engine and 1939 transmission. I am not a real mechanic. I am having trouble installing the brake pedal return spring because of interference caused by the adapter that holds the pedal shaft . Does anyone have any hints or insights?
Also I am unsure what spark plugs to use on the Burt’s engine. I was advised Autolite 3095 but they are very tight. And without gaskets.Any comments.

If your brakes are adjusted to specifications you do not need an extra spring to return the pedal.

I think 3095 is for a Model T, it has 1/2" pipe threads.

I found the spark plug threads on my Burtz head to be tight too. I tapped them out with a tap from Snyders. Take the head off to do that because there is no way to prevent chips from getting in the engine and scratching the cylinder walls.
