Brake pedal assist spring

I should be able to figure this out but apparently can't so far. Some time ago I bought a kit designed to bring my brake pedal back to full height so my brake light wouldn't remain on. It consisted of a heavy hooked arm, a spring and a clip that apparently hooks somewhere. I lost the installation instructions and have been under the car trying to figure out how this thing goes on. I can hook the arm over the base of the brake pedal, and am then unable to stretch the spring and clip over to anything stationary to hook the end of it on. Anyone ever use one of these? Any ideas? Thanks

Al,
Yeah, that spring can be used for your intended purpose and works wonderfully! I did it be fabricating a piece of steel and attaching the spring end to it. The steel fab part attached nicely to my floatamotor anchor bolt.

Click on my name and look at my albums on brakes. Someone on fordbarn gave me this idea. Use a heavy gauge wire (cloths hanger) and a pice of wood. Worked great for me! This homemade tool is easy to make and gives you the leverage you need.

Maybe that old brake light switch ought to be lubed up and the spring that pulls the switch 'ON' be made a tad longer, thus looser?

As to brake pressure via one's foot one brake return spring can be removed from each set of springs anchored on the backing plates as suggested by Mr. 'Ted Floaters'. I don't know if that was the top springs or the bottom springs.

skip.
