Brake noise

Sometimes if I apply my brakes while making a right turn I get a sort of squawking growl from my right front brake. I have woven brake linings with cast iron drums. Could this be the cause?

a loose bearing will allow the drum to twist out of alignment with the shoes, especially on a turn. The misaligned shoe engages on one edge or another and causes the growling noise. Woven linings on cast drums squeal more than molded linings. Try tightening the bearing nut one cotter slot. Ford bearings should not be tight, but if they make more of a clunk than a light click when pulling the drum in and out, they are too loose.

Pulled the hub as suggested. Everything nice and tight. Blew out some brake dust, though, and now all is quiet. Thanks all.

With Teds mods on the front I had that problem. The upper return spring isn't used and the front bottom shoe spring was weak. Replaced it and now front shoe stopped dragging at the top.
