Brake Lining

What commercially available modern brake lining material for Model "A" brake shoes has the highest coefficient of friction against cast iron drums?
I am currently running the Scandinavia type lining, but I am not satisfied with their stopping performance. I previously tried running a black mold-able material, but these were no better than the Scandinavian type. By the way, my stock mechanical brakes are in excellent mechanical working condition.
Happy Father's Day to all of you Model "A" Daddies!

Bob, Tim Kelly had the same issues with another car's howling brakes. He found a brake shoe manufacturer in the Rochester/Buffalo area, who after supplying all the particulars of his car, they recommend a 'correct' lining material..

- Vehicle weight, horse power, wheel diameter, brake surface measurements, drum material, mechanical or hydraulic, and potential speeds etc.
Worked well for him.

- I've heard positive comments regarding the lining material from Synder's.

Glad you are addressing brakes as the competition on the streets is fierce and we need all the advantages we can get.

Whatever the heck Randy Gross uses. I too had the Scandinavian lining for years and never cared for it. Sent my shoes to Randy. Now I have to remind myself I still have mechanical Brakes. World of difference.

Posts #3&4 are spot on. I replaced woven shoes with Randy's bonded shoes. What a difference!! They work well with cast iron drums.

I'm currently relining with Snyder's "bonded". Fronts are done, just the rears to go. Hopefully, I'll get the new drums back from Mike's soon...

I have just fitted 1934 brakes to the front of one of my cars. When it came to relining the shoes, I asked for woven material, bonded on. They work quite well but I think I will try the softest molded lining material bonded next time for comparison. It wouldn't be difficult to change if I don't like them.
