Brake Line Nuts

if you are talking about the brass fittings on each end of replacement metal brake flare tubing, it's my experience that each length of tubing comes with one long fitting one one end and one short on the other.
If you are working on a '50's Ford, it won't matter which fitting you use at either end, since all the junction blocks and user ends are fairly shallow. Maybe some other makes or later years of cars have deeper threads in their junction blocks or wheel cylinders.
