Brake hose fitting

Putting hyd brakes on a 36,where the brake hose goes thru the frame on front left, can i use a t fitting that has the special bolt with a copper washer in between ,will it seal against the brake hose that is sticking thru the frame the hose is made for a double flare but will the washers make a seal???? Don p

That is not the correct approach. The fitting you describe sounds like a bango type fitting. You need just a plain t fitting , it can be held in place via a simple clip. In the 39 style set up the line goes over the frame to the t and one line goes to the right side with the other going to the mastercylinder.

Don, my 39 Deluxe has the same arrangement that you are describing... Seems to have worked for a long time... Karl

The copper ring won't seal.

I wish somebody would have told me that... I have been using the original Ford arrangement as he describes and it has worked fine all these years :)

There is an issue that may cause it to not seal. That is that the new replacement bolts being sold in some cases are a little too long and the end of the bolt contacts the seat in the hose before the copper washers can compress and form a seal. The solution is to take a little off the end of the bolt OR use 2 copper washers under the head of the bolt so that it won't extend too far into the hose. So that makes 2 gaskets under the bolt head and one between the fitting and the end of the hose.

I also make hose brackets that bolt to the bottom of the frame just behind the front axle bumper using an existing holes. This eliminates having to drill the frame AND eliminates having to cut a notch in the inner fender panel if using the 39-48 type hose brakets that extend above the frame.

Sorry, I guess I thought he was working on the rear hose as I read 'where it goes through the frame". That's the only place a hose goes through the frame on an (originally equipped) hydraulic set car. My mistake...
The front hoses seal well as you say with washers.

You have had problems with the rear hose leaking? That is a surprise, since it has female inverted flair at both ends; one goes to a male on the rear T (39-41?) that has to seal on the inverted flair seat (no copper gasket can be used) - is that the problem area? On 42?-48, the hose goes to a hard line that connects to the 3-way T mounted on the bracket (sort of horseshoe-shaped) that mounts on the bolt the secures the rear radius rods to the torque tube. We make a thinner version of that bracket that can be used on A, 32/33/34's, then run a hard line forward to either our handbrake setup on 32's or a special bracket the clamps on the torque tube. On 35-38's, we use the one with the male end that goes directly into the hose, and then the hose goes to a hole in
the frame LH rear X leg, like 39-48's. I have had nobody complain of problems with leaks??? (Well, maybe somebody who was using silicon fluid :>D ??? )

Does this help. Just took a photo. I think your right about the copper washer going on both sides of the banjo bolt. Frank
