Brake Adjustment Buddies, Which Do You Like?

There are at least three types that I know of, the home made version in Les's book, the type sold by Bratton which kind of resembles the home made type and the one sold by Snyder's which is totally different. I've got a 1930 coupe and I'm trying to determine which type would best suit my needs. What say you?

I recently got a complete from backing plate out, set of brakes from Randy Gross. Installed them, cleaned up the threads on the rods, brought the rods up until the brakes would drag just a wee bit, and drove it around the block, parked checked temp, None were dragging so commenced to adjusting and driving. Simply put, adjust to stop straight, and stomp real hard all lock up. NO brake buddy used!! All wheels run the same temp, all wheels lock up. Used common sense and no brake buddy. Brakes work great. Went from a 35mph car to easily a 45mph car. Now I will never be a freeway driver in my A, so I can't tell you what the top speed I will be able to stop at, but I feel safe driving at 45mph.

Why pay and wait for something you can make in a few minutes for nothing.

I'm one that uses a board. I adjust the brakes a bit different than most I guess.

I set the wedges to get the drag where I like it then leave them alone and then set the rod length to the drag i want for the brake board position. If the brakes don't act equally I change a rod length just a bit until the brakes act equally.

I just went through a using a brake buddy and They are OK to find a starting point. You still have to set each brake up separately by driving the car.

We've had many step by step posts on how to adjust them from SCRATCH, including the RODS!
Once the RODS are adjusted, you won't have to ever adjust them again! When adjusting them, have the weight on the front axle & the rear end!
