Borg-Warner R10 question

Just acquired a 31 roadster from an estate. New gas, new battery, runs like a top. Appears to have an older restoration, maybe from the 60s are early 70s.
Has what looks like to me a borg warner od . It appears to have been professionally installed and wired. It has a push pull lever in the floorboard and I understand its functional. I have not tried using the overdrive yet because I cannot locate a kickdown switch on the accelerator. There is however a button and green pilot light located just below the steering column. Anyone have a clue as its function.

Unfortunately, there are many ways to wire a BW. If you can't contact previous owner, best to trace the wiring and write yourself a diagram and learn what it does and how the O/D works.
Good luck.

That converted OD does not work like they did in the original installations. The conversion does not use the kickdown. You have the lockout, you know about that, but the OD is kicked in by a manual switch, not all on it's own.It also does not use the rod that kicks it out when you put it in reverse,so you have to make sure it is turned off before you back up.I have heard stories of people blowing them apart by trying to back up with the OD engaged, but all that ever happened to me was I'd feel a bump and the car would stop moving. The 33% OD in those was a little too high for me,but that's because I was using 3.54 gears behind it.

It seems like one of the club groups like Santa Anita As has info on how they were set up for model As. They need lock out to use reverse gear otherwise they won't reverse. They need a switch to arm the system and a light so you know it's armed. It should have the governor so you can stop and start out without the OD armed. The governor would turn it on when it hits On Speed whatever that may be. It can be switched off but a person may have to lock it out above on speed to get it too drop out.

The folks that made these conversions had their own instructions for operating them depending on how it is configured.
