Bolt Identification

I am spending a little time getting/keeping my shop in order. My previous question about cotter pins got some good information for me and others. I thank all the responders.

New question.
I have a collection of 3/8 in NF x 1 in long hex bolts - probably grade 2. These bolts have 2 separate 1/8 in diameter through holes in the head. Probably for wire retainers. Does anyone know where these bolts are used?

Thanks,
Vic

If they are drilled for safety wire I would expect them to be better than grade 2. Just my 2 cents. :)

wired bolts (bolts with drilled heads or the treaded ends) are a lot of times found in hidden/unexposed part of the mechanical equipment.so they do not fall into the monkey motion. but could be anywhere as a safety precaution.

a picture may help but. i would not worry where they go just put all the drilled head bolts into one can and label it, drilled bolts, put it on the shelf.

Hex Head Screws w/hole in head
A-21113 7/16-20 x 27/32 Flywheel to Crankshaft Bolt

Hex Head Bolts w/Hole in head
A-21145 7/16-20 x 1-3/8

I'm not seeing the second bolt in "applications."

These are from Ford Model A Standard Hardware 1928-1931 by Isbell

i think the only place that uses a bolt that Short is the outer end of the transmission that the bell assembly bolts to.
and it is wired so it don't fall into the monkey motion

That would be A-21116 sized at 7/16-20 x 1 listed under "Hex Head Screws" and does not show a hole in the head. The application does show in the location you give.

The Parts Price List shows this bolt as 350609-S with probably Lock Washer as 34808-S (Dec. 20, 1932 list reprint)

I agree with drilled. I have a still virgin ****** right here in front of me which shows the drilled bolts/wired on the outside side. I suspect Ford used an undrilled bolt with lockwasher in later production. (i.e. by 1932)

7/16"-20 fine thread, 13/16" length Special hardened bolts with pre-drilled holes in the heads are used on the flywheel.

grade markings on the head were introduced in the 1950's.

Get a Parts Price List that covers the year of your Model "A". In the Parts Price List each part / assembly that bolted onto a Model "A" is indicated.
