body wood

Last station wagon with wood on it was 1953, Country Squire, with maple trim and wood grain transfers. Maple trim lasted until mid year of production and discontinued.

My 38 2dr has very little wood in it. It also has the solid roof. Believe the 37s were similar. So 36 would be the last open roof and the last user of wood reinforcement/trim around the windows and roof ribs.

Briggs built the Sedan Delivery bodies using the same techniques from 35-39. There is a lot of wood in the side and rear door frames to which the doors attach. While the 37-39 had steel tops, they were not one piece stampings like the cars but a steel insert tarred in place replacing the 35-36 fabric top.

The Ford GPW (wartime jeep) bodies use wood strips under the floor for reinforcement. Ford quit building their own jeep bodies in Sep 1943. After that they sourced them from the ACM Corporation (the same business building bodies for Willys).
