Body off but new problem

Hi everyone. Thanks to the help I got on this forum and a few guys on HAMB, I was able to remove the body off my 31 coupe. Photos attached. I also posted asking how to remove the shifter prior to removing the body and was told to put her in neutral, remove the top the ******, lift it off and put rag in the hole. I put her down to the hubs on wheel dollies to get her as low as possible. When I was done, I put the wheels back on and noticed it felt like the rear wheels were in gear. I re installed the shifter and put it in neutral and it's still in gear. The only way I can move the chassis is to depress the clutch. Help!! I can take the top off again and post a photo of it and maybe someone can tell me how to fix this. Thanks in advance for the help.

This is what the gears should look like in neutral.

you have probably accidentally moved one of the gears out of position. make sure the forks are in the correct position for neutral, then with the shift tower over the gears verify that the forks and gears are aligned. If not the ****** will remain locked.

You still in gear, make sure forks are going into the correct position when reinstalling shifter..maybe you can move gears by hand into neutral if no tension on them.

Thanks guys, I'll take the top off and see if I can figure it out. The forks in neutral position. How do I know it is in the right position. Just figure where it should be ? Thanks again.

Just look at the picture, the two sliding gears should not be engaged
with any other gears.

You'll also have to have the shifter tower in 'nuetral' position too when you drop it back in place.

Glad you got the body off. Next time buy a case of beer and invite some friends over. Bodys are pretty light, and four men with a good breakfast can lift it with some 2x4's underneath.

The gears move real easy. Guess someone could make a jig that has a flat cover with long thin screws to hold the gears in place at neutral.

When I was about ten my dad gave me a 1935 ford transmission for Christmas. I bet I tore it apart and reassembled it a million times. Great gift and I think of him when I'm playing with early Ford trannys.
