My '30 started blowing oil from the oil filler spout. When I take the filler cap off when she is running there is a lot of pressure and it blows oil from the filler spout. If I put the cap on, after a while it will blow oil out the rear main. Any suggestions on what to do?
Al53,
Do you have a road tube [oil breather] on it? if not i would try one, it vents your pressure and blow-by thru. a tube over board, easy installation and cost about $27
from Mike's "A" fordable or Snyders. try one before you think about Maj. Surg. JMHO.
Yes rings! I got my 29 started before it's rebuild just to hear it run. Idled pretty good for a tired old work horse, but the oil did fly out the filler spout. Between the broken and stuck rings and busted ribs between the rings there was lots of pressure not going out the tail pipe.
The oil breather isn't even a short time solution. It only keeps the oil from getting all over the engine. Sure sounds like rings. Did this start all of a sudden?
I saw this start all of a sudden when a car was driven with the engine pinging from the spark being too far advanced. After one mile the pistons were galled and the rings were stuck in the grooves. Lots of blowby, that could only be fixed with new pistons and rings.
