Block plate for automatic transmission?

Been years since I did an automatic transmission project. Question is: when using an automatic trans like an AOD with a 302 is there a metal block plate required like on a manual transmission between the motor and transmission or is it just trans to block?

Flathead and Y block did not use a block plate, everything else did, manual and automatic.

Yes, between auto trans and a 302 thare is a plate

Usually, the only difference is auto plate have a removable bottom to access the convert bolts, but there are two different plates one for 157 tooth and one for 164 tooth flywheel/flex plates. Difference being the starter is moved out on the larger one.
