Block patch up job

I'm pretty sure the linkage is a standard part for the Canadian built WWI CMP series of trucks. There is a part number on it, I believe, whose prefix will indicate its wartime origins. These trucks were all RHD, I think to meet a general standard for all the Commonwealth Armies...
The little plugged PCV outlet would make the manifold about 1943-45.

Not uncommon to see a repair like that on an old tractor or equipment engine. It wasn't unheard of before permanent anti-freeze for freeze cracks, or even chunks of block to become dislodged.

Looking at the head in the pictures I see it has a nib on the end. Would that be to aid in lifting the head while working in a confined space like in in a COE situation?

I think Graeme has got it.We ran an ex army Canadian Military pattern COE Ford truck for some years and the throttle linkage looked just like that.Cheers Geoff.

What a great patch job, the guy was very smart and inventive. Probably made during WWII or after the depreciation. I have heard all kinds of stories how to repair engines, everything of using bacon rind for rod bearings on Model A's. Blacksmiths were the old car mechanics.
