Block head gasket preparation?

dry fit the gasket first - I can probably guess not all your studs are exactly 90* from the block so you may have to ever so slightly elongate a stud hole. Much easier to check this BEFORE you spray the sticky stuff on it :P You dont want a ridge sticking up so the head doesnt sit 100% flat around the studs

Don't forget a good vacuum job on the block and head before you reassemble things.

Thanks for the tip.

The gasket has a crimped side. Is that the side that goes down, or does the smooth side go down?

Yea your threatening to open a whole cargo container of worms trying to remove head studs...Check past posts about how to remove broken off studs - if you dont have a welder i would not change them.
They came out like a knife through butter. If a job's worth doing...

Sometimes they do, sometimes not so much...Worst part is its like Schrodingers cat box - you dont know if they will come out easy or not till one breaks off:D

Mine are all still stuck in the engine that was in my truck. I just want to remove them so I dont have them sticking out off the block taking up space...i think my block is good (no cracks) but needs some major machine work (valve seats replaced, cyl bored out due to mouse pee, valves replaced, etc)
