Black oil quick

Sorry I have to vent. I end up searching for how to reset the systems. One of my cars has a button under the dash. One has me patting the pedal three times after pressing the odometer stalk. I'll scribble the process inside the cover of the owners manual. Other folks' cars baffle me every time until I go searching. Annoying.

I show my age when I say it also really doesn't seem right to go 7500+ miles between changes, but that's what the books say to do with our modern stuff.

I have to look the procedure up on the Internet every time I change the oil. I only have one car that requires this, so it is easy enough.

I agree about the 7,500 miles or more. I used to change oil at 3K, but I think all that did was enrich the oil companies, so I stopped and went with mfgs suggested change intervals.

Good, bad or indifferent, I have a '99 F-150 with a 4.6 V8 engine. I bought it in Sept. of 2003 with 64000 miles. I changed the transmission oil and installed Amsoil ATF fluid and I have used Motorcraft Synthetic Blend oil in the engine. I change oil every 10,000 miles and it just turned over 248,000 miles and neither the engine or transmission has been touched, except for spark plugs, 4 times, I think. It uses about 2 qts of oil between changes. It probably doesn't have as much zip as it used to have or perhaps it is because I have a 2009 F 150 with a 5.4 engine that makes me feel this way. Either way, it has been a good truck! This is not a recommendation for anything, just my experience.

Maybe a heavier weight oil would reduce consumption?? G.M.

On a Ford, if you increase the viscosity of the oil they will void your warranty! Ford makes a really big deal out of this, 5w-20 is about the max. A heavier oil is not the solution. I realize at 248,000 it is way out of warranty, but heavier oil will cause damage to these engines.

Getting 250k out of a car is the norm for me. I have gotten that out of VWs, Toyotas and Subarus. My F150 has 99k miles and my Focus just turned over 64k miles. Take care of a vehicle and it will last a long time.

Boy it's been a long time since I've heard ( block the ports with pennies ) we did that to make the exhaust pipes back-draw in second gear and let off gas, really pissed off local cops. Al

5-30 is the recommended oil for this truck.
