Black Carbon in Carb Base

I have a 32 Roadster with a mid 40's 59AB engine currently installed that I'm trying to get up and running after 20 years of sitting around. Ultimately I will be replacing the engine with a 32 engine but right now I'm simply trying to get the car operational so I can assess what condition everything is in.

I've rebuilt the fuel pump, am in the process of cleaning and lining that fuel tank and am currently rebuilding the carburetor. Once I've addressed the entire fuel delivery system I'll drop the oil pan, clean everything out, add new oil (with zinc additive) and check out the cooling systems before attempting to start the car.

The Carb. 94 two barrel and when I disassembled it I found lots of charred black carbon in the bottom main body assembly where the economizer valve is located. Actual economizer valve was packed full of the stuff.

I realize this isn't good and was wondering what type of problem/issue I might anticipate needing to address. I'm guessing it is a pre-ignition issue of some kind and would appreciate any insight that anyone can offer.

Corn gas dissolves the resin in the tank. Check intake manifold and valve pockets for more surprises.

Fuel lines and fuel pump had no signs of black carbon. It would appear to be a back fire or pre-ignition issue. Guess I'll have to get everything reassembled and see what happens when I'm able to start it. Thanks.
