Bill Stipe Distributor Cam

Does Bill Stipe make distributor cams? I was told he does. Can't find them on his webpage. Please advise. Thank you.

I recently bought a Stype distributor cam direct from them. I got the phone number on line, and called with a credit card. Had it in a couple of days.

I bought mine direct from Stipe. In fact, they were inexpensive enough that I bought 3 of them. Only had to pay freight once, and I had 2 in case friends might want one. They were quickly snapped up.

Brianfrench65 - Is that cam made from bronze some other substance other than steel?

I once ordered a "B" cam for Minerva & discovered she already had one! (STUPID!) To identify which is which, look at the sides of the cam, the "A" cam has 8 distinct vertical lines, the "B" has 4 vertical lines.
The "B" cam has an increased dwell angle (the amount of time that the points stay closed) to increase the saturation time for the coil, so's you have a HOTTER spark, that'll CURL YO' HAIR or cause you to HURT yo'self!
I'm sure that Mike K. could explain it to us better, in SCIENTIFIC TERMS. If I had FORMAL TRAINING, I'd probably be an inventor of DANGEROUS THINGS!!

I believe that what caused you question, is the lube covering the 'dist' cam and the picture reflection :).
Stipe dist cams are a quality bit of engineering and machining, as it all of Bills work !! I believe that others are selling stipe cams. When you go to buy....ask if it is a STIPE made product. IMO, the best !

The Vendors should market them as "Full Race Cams" since they are Performance Cams!!!
Then the Fellers could Brag about their "Full Race Cam" they just put in their "A" while hangin' out at the local "Choke and Puke" During Cruise Night.
Since Most of the stories shared during "Bench Racing" are BS anyway!!!

This is a NOS Ford Model B cam. Notice the polished surface. A lot of repros are coarse unpolished and they eat up your point block.

Distributor cams:

A few years back, someone mentioned to try removing all (4) spark plugs and to very carefully check the differences in ignition point gaps at all (4) elevated lobes on one's collection of distributor cams.

Everyone who has accurately timed distributors before and after changing point gaps, know that this point gap can affect spark timing; and inaccurate distributor cams can possibly allow variations in fuel ignition timing for each different combustion chamber.

Someone also further explained a few years back, (after testing same on a newly calibrated dynamometer), that changing to a very precise distributor and very precise cam can modify and greatly enhance Model A H.P. and Model A performance when compared to using just any repro Model A cam.

It was also reported that supposedly, Ford's original A & B cams were more precise than modern repro's.

I checked three (3) new, top of the line B cams a few years ago ....... all three (3) created different point gaps on different lobes.

Would be interesting to see an article on the point gap precision of Mr. Bill Stipe's distributor cam.

Appears if they are anything like his precision engine cams, they will be "Right-On".
