BEWARE - Scammers targeting AA members

Not sure if this has been posted already but I received a couple emails from someone impersonating Neil Wilson asking for gift cards to support the Ford Model AA club. These are clearly scammers, please don't fall for this scam!

Here is the email I received again today, both emails were exactly the same.

Hello ******
Are you available for assistance? I'm out of the state now, I have absolute confidence in you to handle this. The Ford Model AA Truck Club needs electronic gift cards to make donations to Veterans in Hospice and Palliative care units to buy coronavirus disease (COVID-19) prevention items. I'm responsible for the reimbursement. Would you like further information?

I got the same email from someone posing as a member of the A400 Group. I deleted it immediately.

You should send it to the internet crime investigation center before deleting it.

they will never get to it- thousands of these scams are posted daily.

Just ONCE I'd like to hear about people like this being caught and sentenced to jail time. Is that asking too much for such a wide-spread crime? There must be THOUSANDS of scammers out there actively trying to cheat people out of their money. The odds are good that at least some of them would be caught and punished. Have you ever heard of such a thing?

so the scammer is in Nigeria............

who is flying to Nigera to get the perpetrator?

Nigerians arent worried about such maladies as we in the US- they are trying to get food, to not starve.
I asked a friend once about HIV in Africa- his response was most dont care- just trying not to starve to death..........

Marshall, I am with you on this one.

What a bunch of creeps.

Maybe we should answer the "I would like further information" and see where it goes from there, and then send it to the crime investigation center

Computers and internet access are fairly cheap now-a-days. Just look at the number of junk/spam emails we receive every day and have to delete. Even if one clueless person responds to one of 1000's of these junk emails, it is probably worth it to the scammers as it cost them nothing to send them.

Someone got a copy of our club roster a while back and was sending out e-mails asking us to send a gift card to another one of our members. Watch out, out there. These guys spend a lot of time coming up with new ways to take your money.

There again, they have to buy the computer first for stupid Americans to pay.
Ed

which came first ....

Your image of a scammer sitting behind a computer typing away at emails is severely outdated.

One person is using 100 or more smart phones at a time send the same email to addresses mined throughout the internet is what’s occurring. 100 or more 6, 7, 8… year old Samsung smart phones are pretty cheap and worthless to all but a scammer. Where do you think your old smartphones end up when they’re traded in?

Hitman hit it on the head!

Hey a certain prez used to give them out for free to illegals..............

not such a difficult task.

Posted an ad on Craig’s List and got a response in less tha 5 minutes.

Thanks for responding swiftly, I’m interested but we're just moving in and currently not in town to come see or pick up, but if you won't mind because of the many scams on Craigslist here, I’ll only be able to pay you through mailing a cashiers check to you and once the check clears through your bank I will have movers come for the pick up Asap, if you are willing to accept my offer I’ll add a tip of $50 in appreciation.

My response was “sorry cash only”. Beware.
