Best Clutch?

I have an engine swap coming up and because the clutch is shot I’m going to take this opportunity to replace it. I’m using a stock Model A transmission. I can’t say I know much about it but it’s my understanding that a V8 clutch works well, is there anything better? Does Centerforce make something that can be used? I understand that the flywheel is going to require some drilling for a new pattern and I’m ok with that (I’m using a lightened flywheel).

I have the V8 clutch in my car and it does indeed work very well. I have the lightened flywheel from Burtz which has all the correct holes already drilled.

The Burtz flywheel will not require any additional drilling to use a "V-8" clutch. Just be sure you get the pressure plate for the cars (9A-7563), with the counterbalanced fingers, and not the one for the tractors (8A-7563), which does not have the counterbalanced fingers.

The friction disk is the same as the one used by the stock Model A clutch.

I remember a "Borg & Beck" type clutch and a "Long" type clutch. I am not certain, but the "Borg & Beck" clutch has a pressure plate with fingers, and the "Long" clutch I think has a pressure plate with a diaphragm. Did I get this right?

I have “Never” used anything but the standard clutch on my cars over the last 67 years.

Never had a problem or a need to replace them.

I do the whole thing. Clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and pilot bearing.

I believe in keeping it simple and stock. This has always worked for me.

Enjoy

Does anyone make a diaphragm clutch that would fit the stock flywheel. I like the heavy flywheel in my Town Sedan but would like to use a diaphragm clutch. IMO, best of both worlds.

Also, I have always used the sintered bronze pilot bushing over the needle pilot bearing. Any preferences?

Same here. I have never had a problem.

I'm with Jim Brierley. Use a Ranger 2.3 diaphragm clutch. I paid
$38.79 for it at Rock Auto fits 1983-1994 Ranger it is a Sachs #3082654412
I just installed one on my Burtz flywheel.
On a stock flywheel, just machine off the ring the stock pressure plate sits on and drill the surface for the Ranger clutch.

What throwout bearing are you using with the diaphragm pressure plate when used in the A ?
