best battery

I think my Optima Battery is approaching eight years old now.
Oh ! Oh !

I think I am now in overtime, but it shows no signs of slowing up.

When I got out of the Army my neighbor gave me a 6 volt battery he had laying on the garage floor. I stuck it in my 1949 Chevy 1 1/2 ton truck, which I didn't drive too much. I really mistreated that battery by letting it go dead, then putting a charger on it when I wanted to use the truck again. I got 12 years out of that battery before it finally gave up the ghost. Turns out it was an Interstate 6 volt battery, which amazed me because I've always had the worst luck with Interstate 12 volt batteries. When I worked at the junk yard I'd pull batteries out of the cars coming in, put them on the charger, and sell the usable ones. Had the best luck with Sears Diehards, and the worst luck with Interstate, but this was all 12 volt batteries.

Hi Tom, tell me more about the voltage regulator inside the power house. Thanks, Phil.

Here's the EVR I make for the 3 brush powerhouse. I can also find the 5 brush picture, if that's what you have. The advantage of using an EVR is the battery life is extended, you almost never need to add water because the battery isn't being undercharged or overcharged. There is less drag on the V belt and engine when the generator isn't putting out more amps than is needed.:)
The EVR will pass high point judging because it's inside the cover and the generator looks totally stock. You simple remove the adjustable brush and screw the EVR in place.

The EVR won't let the generator give more output than it's desgned for, but it will regulate the output the same way any modern generator or alternator does.

Any reason you took yellow top ??
Common choose is red top i guess...

What i dont like about that "fancy" optima-hold-down
is, that metall is very close to both terminals....
(and its just metal once you buy it).

Yellow top (YT) is 6 volt too.
YT is a little less cranking power
and a little different dimensions

Even my RT was made in Mexico,
find attached some (german) infos

BTW
Optima RT was 145€ over here which is about 170Dollar.

Last "normal" batterie i owned was a Varta 140 023 072 A742.
Biggest batterie to fit into original mount
140Ah and 720A (and 250€ - well - you dont want to know about...).

I used to work at a parts house supplying all the national chain stores. We would get huge pallets of batteries and a box of decals. The chain store getting a shipment, would get they're house brand decal stuck on the battery and off it would go.
I had the opportunity to tour the Deka Battery factory on a MARC National Tour a few years ago, and they claimed to supply the majority of batterys available on the market, presumably with the stickers put on at the local distributors, like I saw.

That is a good price on the OPTIMA from Amazon $144.+. If you bought that same battery over the counter at any parts store it would run you around $190. Warranty is 36 months. Auto Zone 6 volt battery that would fit my A was over a $120 and a 90 day warranty

I would love to purchase a NAPA battery but I can't find the part number for their group 1 batteries. Can anyone tell me? Their batteries are Deka and waranty is free replacement for 36 months the pro rated after that.

P.S.
When I went into Amazon's website I typed in the type of car "1930 Ford Model A". Amazon came up with part number 8020-164-35. Both your Optima and the one recommended are undersized. But that is how I came up with the price.

No matter what I am still looking for NAPA's part number on the A 6 volt battery. At lest with the A's you can still get a battery to fit. Try finding two 6 volt batteries for any MGA.

I clicked on the site, and a "Be sure it fits" pops up. I put in 28 and 29 ford and it says "it will not fit" but the size seem to work
On amazon be sure it fits is just cross reference a data base they have so I doubt if model A,s are in it correctly.

The 6V NAPA battery that I bought last year (May 29) in New Glasgow, NS, Canada was $94.83, $109.05 with taxes

Part Number was 01-9

Works great. I woke up the 30 roadster up on Good Friday to take it for a drive after last driven on December 9, 2012. No problems with the battery at all - worked great. The drive was great - we were out about an hour - nice spring day - car ran great.

Yesterday it started snowing - still snowing now - 3-4" so far.

So now waiting for spring to arrive again.

Thank you clo2jim. I took your part number and had to cross reference it to NAPA's new number 7244. Our local NAPA store has them at $101.99 plus tax. I'll wait till the owner orders another shipment of batteries in for the summer and have him get me one that hasn't been sitting on the shelf. Not that much in a hurry for it. I'll keep pushing the Model A in and out while restoring the MGA. It sure does stink moving from a double car garage and a barn in the back yard to a single car garage. But the seafood is good down here on the Outer Banks and the view on the beach ain't bad either.
