how to remove benedix drive from a starter motor for 1955 ford

the manual says to compress the bendix spring
i do not have a hydraulic press
does anyone have another way to compress the spring

I’ve used a C clamp to compress the spring and then push out the pin. If memory serves me correctly I’ve used a bench vise also.
