Belly tanks Model A/B

My last question about Babbit opened up a new topic about bellytanks. It seems as if there are a few here on fordbarn who race the V4 class in el mirage and bonneville. My question is with the model A/B motors what have you seen for transmissions?
For my belly tank I have a 4 speed side shift from early 60’s ford truck. Trying to figure out the best way to combine the two.
Any ideas or help appreciated.

That looks like a three speed to me.

We run a 1950 Lincoln trans, using only 2nd and 3rd gears. Low is in there but not used, the reverse idler has been removed. The ratios are similar to the 26t. Zepher. You get a push start, so we feel low is not needed, in fact I know a couple of lakesters than run igh gear only.

Interesting transmission Jim Brierley… what bellhousing worked with that? Did you have to make an adapter plate. I have seen transmissions behind model A/B motors using model AA truck bellhousing.

We had a pattern maker in our club, he made a 2" aluminum spacer that we bolted a standard pressed steel bell housing to (aftermarket) and the trans bolted to that. SCTA requires a scattershield. we then made a coupling between the trans and the quick change. We bolted a 1/4" thick piece of steel inside the adapter to comply with the rules.
