Bell housing differences

Hey All

I know there are height differences between car and AA bell housings

On a AA transmission, the rod that supports the pedals is into the transmission itself not the bell housing like the car model

Is this Rod in the same location theoretically as the car? Meaning, if you were to utilize a AA transmission and bell housing in a car with the pedals be in the correct spot?

I have no intention of doing this. I want to use a AA Bill housing to put a T170 into my car but I wanna know if the location is correct so I can correctly fabricate a bracket to utilize petals in the right spot.

I have a passenger car transmission in my car, but it’s a running moving vehicle right now and if I could not tear it apart, I would prefer to do that

Sorry for the strange post, but I figured with all the knowledge here someone would know

Thank you
Dave

Here are a couple of pictures that may help.

I did something similar to BobC's install. I welded a right angle bracket onto the end of pedal shaft. Then I cut a slot into the bell housing that just fit the 1/4x1 inch right angle bracket and welded it to the bell housing on both sides. It has held up without any other support for 15 years and 20,000 miles. Here are some pictures.

Nice!
Was you bracket steel or cast iron?
Any welding recommendations?
Thanks

Bracket and pedal shaft are steel. You need to preheat the bell housing in an oven to 400 degrees F before you do the welding.

Ok a little off topic but since we are talking about T-170 conversions
When the main shaft is shortened how does the sealing of the trans work?

I have a CNC Mill so fabrication of the back plate and shortening the main shaft and cutting splines should be straightforward

Do I need to add a seal in here?

Thanks again
Dave
