Beginning a 51 Ford Tudor Resto

Hello all!
I'm new to to this forum so I wanted to introduce myself and post some of my latest project pictures on my 51 Ford Tudor Custom. My name is Jimmy and I'm located just outside of Pittsburgh, PA. I like to work on car/trucks in my spare time as a hobby. I am not a professional by any means when it comes to metal, paint and mechanical stuff, but I get it done.
My current project is a 51 Ford Tudor Custom that has been a PA car all its life. But that is why she needs new floors, rockers and bracing and a ton of other work. I currently have her blown apart and finally on a rotisserie. Next up is metal work...
Here are a few pictures of the 51.

Neat! I have some NOS tie rod ends and the like for Shoe boxes if you need them later. We are up in Albion PA north of you.

Looks like a good starting point Jimmy. I redid my 51 Deluxe tudor 12-14 years ago, keeping the body on the frame. At the time (maybe still?) I couldn't find some of the body mounts which are a little different from the 49/50s so did my best to fabricate them. I learned everything as I went, did most of the floors, rocker panels, patched the quarter panels and fender bottoms, etc. Good luck with the project and keep us posted. Good luck! Ken

Thanks Ken! Your 51 is beautiful example! It looks like a ton of fun hours went into her. Congrats! I will have to make sure and take more pictures along the way.

Thank you 1942deluxe! I'm going off script a little and putting a S10 frame under her. not sure if I want to bag it or static ride for the suspension. I have to tackle the metal work on the body as my first steps.

Jimmy, Welcome to the Barn, you will find it to be an INCREDIBLE source of information and assistance. I too have a passion for shoeboxes,..... particularly '51s.

Thank you Shoebox! I know I will have a ton of questions coming down and I will appreciate the advice and help! I ordered new floor panels from EMS just yesterday. Once they get here the major metal work and rot removal begin.

Ohh absolutely on the S-10. Monte Carlo SS suspension is a bolt-on and lots of aftermarket parts for the metric chassis. I don't think I would "bag it", I would lean toward making it a touring car. We have put many 1000's of miles on our old school suspension and at this point in life I kinda like creature comforts. I would rather "point" the car instead of having to drive it.
There is a U-tube video that is pretty detailed. Looks like a very simple swap.
My only thought when I was considered do it was a 12 volt(ed) flathead with electronic ignition and mounts for the GM air-conditioning.
When I had my interior apart I regret not updating the isolation.

Thanks Gene! Comfort is priority since this is my wife's car. Also AC is a must have too. I will check out youtube on the s10 swap. I heard it is not bad, even shortening the frame looks straightforward from the youtube clips I've watched so far. The insulation is also a great point! I will add that to the list of many things I did not consider and will need addressed down the road.
Thanks again!

Update:
I received the floor panels from EMS and they are strong and look great! Thank you EMS!
I also have a line on a S10 frame a few hours from me. I will have to shorten it but she looks solid and already striped down as a rolling chassis. I will post pictures after I pick the new frame up.
Thank you!
Jimmy C

Please do the forum a favor and do some serious record keeping. AND post updates from those records ever so often.
The guys that have "S-10ed" their shoeboxes have used the plain/standard cab chassis. NOT the extended cab etc.
thankx, Gene
