Beautiful brakes

Got my new MT Car Products hydraulic brake kit today. It is beautiful. Costy, but no moreso than a correct original setup. Saying beautiful. And BRAND NEW. Hope that is OK. Some of you might want to recommend me to the hot rodders, but I like it here with the older and wiser guys. If you care to correct me, good luck. These brakes are beautiful.

So you like it here because of the wiser guys and their wisdom, yet you did what most wiser (experienced) guys suggest you NOT do, and yet you are still converting to hydraulic brakes. Not sure I understand your rationale but ...your car/your money.

Everyone has their own opinion and poison. I was close to looking at hydraulic brakes for my roadster as a close friend with another same year roadster has them. Then, I talked to a man who has lots of A experience. He said he'd help me get my mechanical brakes right up to specs. I made a very wise choice. Brakes are now like new, stock and perform well .

My observation: Most Model A brakes that have been rebuilt properly & DON'T stop well, are a result of NOT being adjusted properly! A friend, whom I thought was a Model A expurt & had just bought a nicely restored '29 Coupe said, "The brakes were almost to the floor & I adjusted the fronts, so I could drive it out here to the car show. I didn't have time to do the rears, cuz you gotta' take the wheels off to adjust them"!! (DUH!)

Yes, the machine work and finish are excellent on that kit.
If you are staying with stock size tires, you didn't need to spend all that money though
unless you just did it for the looks.
If you are going to 7 or 8 inch wide rubber, you can utilize all the stopping power they provide and more.

My stock model A brakes stop better than my stock brakes in my 1960 Austin Healey and they are hydraulic !

Question- has anyone preformed a skid-pad test on stock A model brakes? stopping distance ? verses a model hydraulic in same type car

You got my drift, Pete. Sayin' those parts are beautiful, that's all. I have heard every debate there is about mechanical vs hydraulic since I, at age 16, got my 45B in 1959. That was the same time, BTW, I started craving hydraulics. I got the car, my first one, because it was so old timey, and I like that. I'm an old timey guy. The engineering and technology (if that word applies here) of the day still tickle me. Lots of ingenious things going on. One of my favorite pieces is the accelerator linkage bracket. That is a gizmo and a half! And the light switch, and the e-brake, and speedo gear drive ... the basic (also beautiful) simplicity almost everywhere involved. But those brakes -- just too Rube Goldberg for me. Some do, but I don't, enjoy continually diddling around with them. I figure if my new ones can stop a '39 Lincoln sedan, they will stop my '30 Ford coupe. So, I am thrilled to finally have what I wanted some 54 years ago. And super thrilled to see them. Those brakes are beautiful.

Bikejunk: Not many of the folks here on the barn own up to having both an A and a Healey. Mine is a '58 100-6 Healey Blue. 156,000 miles and carefully cared for. I think the Healey brakes are better than the A although it may be the Dunlop radial tires ( or should that be tyres ) that are the reason.

An Easter Egg is also a beautiful thing sitting on the mantle, but after time just sitting there, it begins to stink. Jus' sayin'!! :o Therefore 'beauty' is definitely in the eyes of the beholders!! :D

nothing worse than going out to a car that sat for a winter and hooking up the battery and putting your foot on the brake to only have it go to the floor
never happens on my model a's
it has happend on my hot rods though
but i would run mechanicals on a hot rod...so 6 of one half a dozen of another

B-terry hit the nail on the head your car / your money. If we did not wont our cars to look beautiful and operate better a lot of people would be out of work. Just saying.

Springerpete you sir have a real Healey !! I have a bug eye all original down to the rubber floor mats ,the real problem is the darn seals letting me down every season fussy but fun
