I’m curious to know where on the frame do I find the vin number on the BB ?
I know it is on the bell housing but that can be swapped. Thanks

Only stamped on the firewall/cowl attachment area of the left frame rail on commercial and big truck frames. The other two locations shown in #3 above do not apply.

On 1935 trucks (Model 51) the serial number is in two locations: top edge of the transmission to engine bell housing and on the top of the left side frame member about where the cowl intersects the frame. Model BB trucks with a 4-cylinder engine may have the serial number on the engine in a different location. I defer to DavidG for the BB trucks as he is more familiar, however, I believe the BB trucks and Model 51 trucks have the same serial number locations, at least the V8 equipped models.
Attached are images of the locations in a 1935 Model 51 (big) truck.

The OP stated he found the number on the trans/bell housing (OR is at least familiar with that location)!! All that was left (no pun intended) is the left frame rail at the cowl meeting spot as you have ALSO stated was the case for 35/36.....AS I read it, that is!!!

I've had 2 32 BB chassis, 1 short and 1 long wheelbase. As David said I found the serial number stamped in the left rail just in front of the firewall leg.

32FordDump, hopefully you found the serial number and now know one more thing about your truck. If the number on the transmission is the same as the frame, then you have the original transmission.
Just out of curiosity, are both of your '32 BB chassis set up for the four cylinder or the V8 engine? Also, in the beginning, Ford started big trucks with AAB as the prefix and at some point in 1932 began using BB. Do your serial numbers start with "BB"? Just curious as details like this about big trucks is often very hard to find.

Dave,

I oversimplified as of course they all have the number on the transmission bell housing or on the upper flywheel housing in the case of fours as that was the way the engine/transmission assemblies were stamped once manufactured at either the Rouge Engine Plant, East Windsor or Dagenham.

In my earlier comment, I was referring strictly to the absence of the second and third stamping of the number on the chassis frame at the time the engine/transmission assembly was installed in the chassis.

Sorry for the confusion.

I have two Bb short wheelbase dump trucks. One has a serial number of BB etc. and one AAB. Both setup with the 4 cylinder model b engines. One has a Galion body and one with a Heil body. Thanks for all your help.

Big '32 trucks originally equipped with V8 engines are pretty rare because the V8 option was not released until late in the year. Less than 5% of them came with V8s, worldwide. The AA and A portion of a the engine number prefix on U.S.-produced fours was dropped with engine number B-5062387 on April 25, 1932. Thereafter, the prefix was limited to B or BB, depending on the chassis destination of the engine.
