Does anyone have a photo of a battery hold down cover? From start of production thru Aug. 28 , "A" in the JS page 4-4 . I would think it looks
like angle iron.

Thanks

Mikes has these with the discription "Original style clamps that hold the 2 corners of the battery to the box. (cast) 1928 - Aug. 1928."

My original 9-11-28 only had the two bolts coming up from the battery box and the two metal hold downs for the corners of the battery. There was no angle iron bracket around the top of the battery that was held down by the metal clamps. Made a battery hold down myself out of small angle iron but is not per Judging Standards, but do not compete in Judging it is a driver. Also to insure that could never get a short from the hot side of the battery to ground since have converted to 12V negative ground cut the bottom of a 1 qt oil container which was black and fit it over the plus post of the battery and covering the battery hold down. If you are 6V posative ground would want to place this cover over the negative post of the battery. A shorted battery can provide hundreds (look at the Cold cranking amp rating on a battery) of amps for a short time and cause a fire. That is why they tell you to remove the ground ******** all modern cars before working or removing a battery.

You are correct with the fact of the battery hold down was of angle iron shape. The clamps shown on a previous post, were used to clamp the battery hold down in place. I have one here with my collection of parts, and would post a picture of it, if I had the technology. It really was not a cover, just a hold down frame. Does not fit the modern batterys to well, but could easily be modified for a particular battery size.
Inside and outside corners are all rounded. The sides of the bracket flare out somewhat.

Glenn;

That's the one I'm looking for, I believe that's the term used in the JS, if you figure
out the photo thing and post let me know.

Mike;

Thanks for the post.

I have a couple of NOS frames that I bought at Hershey years ago. Now, I can't find my camera to take a picture of them.

I think A&L sells them.

Found my camera, so here's 2 pictures of the 1928 battery frame used with the 2 forged hold downs. As mentioned the vertical sides flare out slightly, but that detail doesn't show up in these pictures due to the camera angle.

I know someone sells repro of these and I'm pretty sure it is A&L even if you don't see it listed in their catalog.
