battery hold down bolts 1937 pickup

Is there anything to hold the battery hold down bolts in place other than the carriage head on the end? Seems they just want to fall out when you remove the battery top hold down.

Yep, that they do, but no real remedy. I have an Optima in my 35 PU. I built a metal box the size of a Ford battery and turned the battery at an angle from corner to corner, with a strap going from original post to original post and then used the original hold downs. Works like a charm. I used the original floorboard pattern but then cut the floorboard where I can remove just enough of it to get the battery out. If I could overcome my blockage to posting pictures, I would post pictures. Really neat modification.

The head of the bolt should not fall through an original battery hold down. Also, there should be a flat washer and rubber seal (I used valve cover seals from a Y block Ford) which goes under the “bump” on your bolts. This seals the battery box/firewall holes from the interior when you tighten the nuts inside the cab…preventing fumes from entering. Remember, this is the first year the battery was not under the drivers feet. Lawson has a ‘35 which is totally different from yours.

Exactamundo. Why didn't I catch that? Getting slower of thought than of foot I guess, and that's mighty slow.
