BaT Pricing Fun

Totally random, but interesting nevertheless...there were two Model As that closed in the last 48 hours, and they closed for the same price - $14,750.

One was a mixmaster of 1928, 1929, and 1930 bits, the other a nice, but 38 year old restoration.

Not making any generalizations about the buying market or values of the cars...just a random observation about an interesting coincidence. :D

Selling prices are interesting.

I think selling prices were fair given there overall condition.

Another $5,000.00 most likely would get you a generally more desirable car.

Enjoy.

BAT can be all over the place, depending on timing and market conditions.

I watch 5-10 auctions daily and noticing many cars are currently not meeting reserve. same thing as the housing mkt as it has been slowing down in most areas around the country in the last yr.
People still want top dollar, but they arent getting it in all cases as they did in the past. cooling off.
Highly desireable cars and communities are still selling, but interest has been waining,
as expectations are uncertain.

I have observed the same thing here. People are quick to revise their price upwards when the market is rising but slow to reduce it when the market falls. That's human nature.
One of our club members had his 1928 Phaeton advertised recently for a very reasonable price even allowing for the depressed market. The car had a Mitchell synchro cogbox, HC head, Webber carb, new tyres and lots of work done on the suspension and brakes. It is a very rally ready car that required no more spent on it. I would have bought it myself but for the fact that I already have too many Model As. It took more than 2 months for anybody to respond to the ad and he only did so after I told him about just how good the car is. Even as little as 6 months ago, that car would have sold in a flash at a higher price.
