Barrs Leak Question

Some time ago there was some discussion about leaks and the use of Barrs Leak. Someone at theat time mentioned something about dissolving the pekkets prior to putting it in the radiator. I did a search but came up empty. Does anyone know about this. Additionally, how do you dissolve the pellets before puting it in the radiator. Thanks for any info you can provide.

For the last 45 years I have used all Barrs leak as instructed on the container with 0 problems. Love that stuff

Best used in a clean cooling system. In my experience, it usually seals the problem, but turns your coolant into mud your antifreeze isn't fresh.

Paul, where is your leak? I can tell you I used moroso ceramic block seal for a crack in the block on my flatty and it worked like a charm. You can google it to find where to puchase. You mix it with water, NO antifreeze, run your car 20 miles or so and drain. Let it sit overnight , add your 50/50 mix and your done. I got this tip from OL Ron. I think some trucking companys use it to seal up big diesel engines. If its a leak other than the block it may not be what you want. Ken

If someone dumps the pellet type in all at one time it will pile up on the tubes where it hits them and take a long time to desolve. Poured in slowly with the engine RPMs raised the pellet are no problem and have been used 50 years or more. I like the Barrs heavy duty aluminum liquid sealer. This has small aluminum granulars that clean the interneral surfaces over a LONG period of time. My top plate and tubes look better than any new radiator. I showed it to my radiator guy and he couldn't believe it. G.M.

Make sure your engine temperature is up and the water hot before putting the pellets in. They usually disolve quite quickly and won't plug up anything in the radiator. If you put them in a cold radiator they just sit there like a big glob.

To answer YOUR question... boil the Barrs in a pan of water atop your stove. Add that to your at operating temperature radiator.

Don't use the pellets go to their website there are alternatives now that don't require the use of the pellets. More user friendly and no fuss

I have used barrs leak for over 50 years with no problems.
Other guys in the shop liked aluma seal, so i bought it one tube at a time for them, but kept a supply of Barrs on the shelf.

Both worked well.

Bruce

Lasts long time

Barr's leak has a liquid formula that I've used and it work great. Never liked the tablets. NAPA or any other good auto parts store has the liquid.
